in memory of martin

my caramel brown dachshund
sweet and friendly
playful and hyper
kids in our neighborhood adore him

Maida gave him to me. i got him from Zamboanga where i was on travel for the wedding of my client. When we arrived home, he was sick so i rushed him to the vet. The vet gave him shots of medicine and vitamins. He was dehydrated and so thin. He could barely walk. When we went home, he had his dextrose. The good vet put wedge so the needle won't dislodge. But she doubted martin could live. So i went home crying. i was so sad but i never gave up. Upon seeing me crying, my father help me take good care of sick martin. We grounded meat and placed it inside a small bottle. Put meat soup, eggs and some antibiotics. We placed the body of a ballpen and attached it to the bottle. now it served as a feeding bottle. we forced martin to eat by placing the nozzle at the side of his mouth. Then we feed him with water. that's how he survived his ordeal. when he was strong enough, we visited his vet. and she was so glad to see martin again.

Two years after that incident, he got ill again. This time he went so thin and wasted. i couldn't bare seeing him dying so slow. i was always looking at him and crying. i didn't know what else to do. The night before he died, i gave him his med. As if with all his strength left, he came crawling near me and laid his head on my lap. The following day, he is gone. i miss martin. he was such a sweet dog.
